URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Great Falls MT 845 AM MDT Wed May 1 2024 ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM MDT THURSDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 3 and 7 inches at lower elevations, between 7 and 13 inches at pass level, and higher amounts at higher elevations. * WHERE...Little Belt and Highwood Mountains. * WHEN...Until 6 PM MDT Thursday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible and tire chains may be required for some vehicles. Those in the backcountry should ensure they have appropriate knowledge and gear and may want to consider alternate plans. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...The worst roadway impacts will occur during the overnight and morning hours. The heavy wet snow may cause isolated power outages. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency.
