Air Quality Alert Message Relayed by National Weather Service Mount Holly NJ 912 AM EDT Tue Jun 6 2023 ...AIR QUALITY ALERT IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT EDT WEDNESDAY NIGHT... The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has issued a Air Quality Action Day for Fine Particulates, until midnight EDT Wednesday night. For June 6th, an Air Quality Action Day for Particulate Matter (PM2.5) has been declared for Tuesday, June 6th. Sensitive individuals, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and the young should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors. Levels of fine particulates will rise to the unhealthy for sensitive groups category statewide today and into the evening hours due to wildfire smoke trans port from eastern Canadian wildfires. Sunny skies and temperatures reaching the upper 70s are expected ahead of a cold front that is forecast to cross the region on Tuesday. This front will provide breezy winds and a chance for showers in the afternoon which will help limit ozone concentrations to the upper good category. For June 7th, an Air Quality Action Day for Particulate Matter (PM2.5) has been declared for Wednesday, June 7th. Sensitive individuals, including those with heart or lung disease, the elderly, and the young should limit strenuous activities and the amount of time active outdoors. Levels of fine particulates will rise to the unhealthy for sensitive groups category statewide on Wednesday and potentially extend into the evening hours due to wildfire smoke transport from eastern Canadian wildfires. Due to the dense nature of the wildfire smoke, and chance for precipitation, ozone is forecast to remain in the good category. An Air Quality Advisory means that air quality within the region may approach or exceed unhealthy standards. For more information on current and forecast concentrations of ground-level ozone and fine particulates, visit www.airnow.gov or www.state.nj.us/dep/airmon/ or call the New Jersey Bureau of Air Monitoring at 609-292-0138
