BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED Flash Flood Warning National Weather Service Columbia SC 715 PM EDT Tue Aug 6 2024 The National Weather Service in Columbia has extended the * Flash Flood Warning for... Northwestern Calhoun County in central South Carolina... Central Lexington County in central South Carolina... Central Richland County in central South Carolina... * Until 845 PM EDT. * At 715 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain falling across the warned area. Between 1.5 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Columbia, Lexington, West Columbia, Cayce, Irmo, Forest Acres, Springdale, Oak Grove, St. Andrews, Red Bank, Dentsville, McEntire Air Base, South Congaree, Pine Ridge, Gaston, Arcadia Lakes, SC State Farmer's Market, SC State Fair Grounds, Columbia Metro Airport and West Columbia Riverwalk. This includes the following highways... Interstate 126 between mile markers 0 and 3. Interstate 26 between mile markers 106 and 133. Interstate 20 in South Carolina between mile markers 47 and 80. Interstate 77 between mile markers 0 and 19. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Most flooding deaths occur in vehicles. Never drive through a flooded roadway or around barricades. Turn around, don't drown. Be aware of your surroundings and do not drive on flooded roads.
