The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 615 AM HST. * At 304 AM HST, a large rain band associated with Hurricane Hone was impacting the southeast flank of the Big Island. Peak rain rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour were occurring over the Puna and Kau Districts. The Hawaii County Civil Defense Agency reported that Cane Haul Road and Wood Valley Road near Pahala were closed due to flooding. Heavy rainfall will continue beyond sunrise as Hurricane Hone moves southwest of the Big Island. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapaau, Honokaa, Pohakuloa Training Area, Pohakuloa Camp, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley, Pahala, Hawaiian Acres, Papaikou, Keaau, Honomu, Pepeekeo, Orchidlands Estates and Laupahoehoe. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry.
