The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 1215 PM HST. * At 857 AM HST, radar showed heavy rainfall continuing to impact the southeast flank of the Big Island. The highest rain rates were 1 to 2 inches per hour over South Point and the Windward slopes near Hakalau. In the Kau District, Highway 11 remains closed at Kawa Flats, and Wood Valley Road and Cane Haul Road remain closed near Pahala. Heavy rainfall will continue through the rest of the morning hours as Hurricane Hone moves westward to the southwest of the Big Island. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas.
