BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED Flash Flood Warning National Weather Service Honolulu HI 255 PM HST Sun Aug 25 2024 The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the * Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 615 PM HST. * At 255 PM HST, radar showed bands of moderate to locally heavy rain moving into the southeast flank of the Big Island. Rain rates have generally decreased during the past few hours, but radar continues to show pockets of rain rates of up to 2 inches per hour. In the Kau District, Highway 11 remains closed at Kawa Flats, and Wood Valley Road and Cane Haul Road remain closed near Pahala. There has been reports of flooding across the roads of Naalehu. In the North Kohala District, Homestead Road remains closed. Bands of heavy rainfall will continue through the afternoon hours as Hurricane Hone moves westward and away from the Big Island. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Hilo, Hawaiian Paradise Park, Kapaau, Honokaa, Pohakuloa Training Area, Pohakuloa Camp, Volcano, Glenwood, Mountain View, Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, Wood Valley, Pahala, Hawaiian Acres, Papaikou, Keaau, Honomu, Pepeekeo, Orchidlands Estates and Laupahoehoe. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. && This warning may need to be extended beyond 615 PM HST if flooding persists.
