BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED Flash Flood Warning National Weather Service Honolulu HI 533 PM HST Sun Aug 25 2024 The National Weather Service in Honolulu has extended the * Flash Flood Warning for... The island of Hawaii in Hawaii County * Until 915 PM HST. * At 533 PM HST, radar showed bands of heavy rain moving into the windward slopes and southeast flank of the Big Island. Rain rates have briefly increased with rates of up to 3 inches per hour. The heaviest rain was generally falling over the slopes of South Hilo and Puna districts. In the Kau District, Highway 11 remains closed at Kawa Flats, and Wood Valley Road and Cane Haul Road remain closed near Pahala. Rainfall rates have decreased in these areas and emergency management reported that water is receding but roads still remain closed. Bands of heavy rainfall will continue through the evening hours, but rainfall should gradually decline tonight. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by heavy rain. SOURCE...Emergency management. IMPACT...Flooding in drainages, streams, rivers, roads, properties, and other low-lying areas. Public road closures possible in some areas. Landslides are possible in steep terrain. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Stay away from streams, rivers, drainage ditches, and culverts, even if they are currently dry. Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don't drown. && This warning may need to be extended beyond 915 PM HST if flooding persists.
