BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED Flash Flood Warning National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 516 AM EDT Thu Sep 26 2024 The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Transylvania County in western North Carolina... * Until 115 PM EDT Thursday. * At 516 AM EDT, Across Transylvania County, the current lull in rainfall is expected to end over the next 30 to 60 minutes as an axis of moderate to heavy rain is approaching from the Upstate of South Carolina. The French Broad, Davidson, and Little rivers are already out of their banks causing nuisance flooding, and are starting to rise again following earlier rainfall of 2-5". The additional heavy rainfall imminently approaching the county will steepen the rate of rise on area streams and rivers and cause Minor flood conditions to develop. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar and automated gauges. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, low-water crossings, and roadways with deeper flooding of poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that may experience flash flooding include... Brevard, Rosman, Gorges State Park, Dupont State Forest, Connestee, Balsam Grove, Sassafras Mountain, Penrose, Cedar Mountain, and Little River. If the rainfall persists, more significant flooding may develop, including in the Rosman, Cedar Mountain, and Pisgah Forest communities. This Flash Flood Warning may be upgraded to a considerable Flash Flood Warning, indicating a high probability of Moderate flooding. People living along area streams are urged to be prepared for more significant flooding as additional heavy rainfall is expected later Thursday morning. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Heavy rain is increasing the risk of landslides, especially in areas where slides have occurred in the past. Be especially alert if you are near a stream, especially at the base of a mountain or in a cove. Watch for loose-moving soil and rocks or a sudden increase in streamflow. Leave the area quickly if this is observed. When driving along roads where the terrain is steep or rocky, watch and listen for falling rocks, mud, trees and other debris. Move to higher ground now. Act quickly to protect your life. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. && LAT...LON 3526 8262 3514 8258 3512 8266 3513 8268 3510 8270 3509 8273 3507 8276 3507 8278 3509 8278 3503 8301 3505 8306 3513 8298 3516 8300 3517 8298 3519 8299 3523 8293 3529 8292 3532 8283 3542 8274 3529 8261 FLASH FLOOD...RADAR AND GAUGE INDICATED
