BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED Flash Flood Warning National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 408 AM EDT Fri Sep 27 2024 The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Habersham County in northeastern Georgia... Rabun County in northeastern Georgia... * Until 800 AM EDT. * At 408 AM EDT, Doppler radar indicated heavy rain across Rabun and Habersham Counties. Between 3 and 7 inches of rain have fallen. The expected rainfall rate is 0.5 to 1 inch in 1 hour. Additional rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches are possible in the warned area as tropical rainbands lift north. Significant flooding appears likely, resulting in road closures, first-floor inundation, and damage to some structures. The risk of life-threatening landslide activity continues to increase. HAZARD...Life threatening flash flooding. Heavy rain producing flash flooding. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Life threatening flash flooding of creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Toccoa, Clayton, Clarkesville, Cornelia, Baldwin, Demorest, Mount Airy, Alto, Mountain City, Tiger, Dillard, Sky Valley, Tallulah Falls, Lake Rabun, Lakemont, Tallulah Gorge State Park, Lake Burton, Black Rock Mountain State Park, Raoul and Seed Lake. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Heavy rain is significantly increasing the risk of landslides, especially in areas where slides have occurred in the past. Slides can destroy single homes and other structures and large sections of roads. If you are in the warned area, you should not travel, except to move away from flash flood or landslide dangers. If you are in the vicinity of a stream near the heavy rainfall, especially on a mountainside, or at the base of a mountain or in a cove, move immediately to a safer location. Be especially cautious at night when it is harder to recognize the dangers of flooding. In hilly terrain there are hundreds of low water crossings which are potentially dangerous in heavy rain. Do not attempt to cross flooded roads. Find an alternate route. && LAT...LON 3491 8360 3494 8360 3495 8355 3499 8355 3500 8310 3494 8311 3493 8316 3482 8327 3482 8331 3473 8335 3469 8334 3448 8346 3449 8354 3443 8361 3450 8367 3455 8362 3465 8366 3476 8363 3480 8368 3489 8364 FLASH FLOOD...RADAR INDICATED FLASH FLOOD DAMAGE THREAT...CONSIDERABLE EXPECTED RAINFALL RATE...0.5-1 INCH IN 1 HOUR
