URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Fairbanks AK 1059 AM AKDT Fri Oct 11 2024 ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 4 PM SATURDAY TO 4 AM AKDT MONDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow and blowing snow possible. Total snow accumulations of 6 to 16 inches possible. Winds could gust as high as 40 mph along coastal locations. * WHERE...Central Beaufort Sea Coast, Eastern Beaufort Sea Coast, Central Arctic Plains and Central Brooks Range. * WHEN...From 4 PM Saturday to 4 AM AKDT Monday. * IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult to impossible. Areas of blowing snow could significantly reduce visibility. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...A low pressure system moving over the Brooks Range and Eastern North Slope over the weekend will bring heavy snowfall to the area. Snow will gradually increase in coverage through the day on Saturday, eventually peaking in intensity Saturday Night through much of Sunday. The highest snowfall totals are expected to be along the Dalton Highway near and north of Atigun Pass, as well as the coastal area stretching from Deadhorse to Kaktovik. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are expected or occurring. This will make travel very difficult or impossible.
