URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Buffalo NY 750 PM EST Wed Jan 1 2025 ...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST SUNDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow expected. Total snow accumulations 2 to 4 feet through the ENTIRETY of the prolonged event in the most persistent lake snows. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph will result in areas of blowing snow at times. * WHERE...Northern Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, and Lewis Counties. The greatest accumulations will be across the Tug Hill Plateau. * WHEN...Until 6 PM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult at times, especially on secondary roads. The hazardous conditions will impact the Thursday morning commute. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Widespread moderate to heavy snow will transition to lake effect snow that will fall in relatively narrow bands. If traveling, be prepared for rapidly changing road conditions and visibilities.
