URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Buffalo NY 139 PM EST Mon Jan 13 2025 ...LAKE EFFECT SNOW WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 4 AM EST TUESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy lake effect snow. Additional snow accumulations 4 to 8 inches in the most persistent lake snows, bringing storm totals into the 6 to 12 inch range. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph will produce blowing and drifting snow. * WHERE...Northern Erie and Genesee Counties. The lake effect snow will focus mainly across the southern and southeast suburbs of Buffalo and southern Genesee County. * WHEN...Until 4 AM EST Tuesday. The heaviest snow and greatest impacts to travel will be this afternoon and evening. * IMPACTS...Travel will be difficult with snow covered roads. Areas of blowing snow will significantly reduce visibility. The hazardous conditions will impact the Monday evening commute. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow with greatly reduced visibilities to dry conditions just a few miles away.
