URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Chicago IL 1012 AM CDT Fri Mar 14 2025 ...RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL MIDNIGHT CDT TONIGHT... The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Red Flag Warning, which is in effect until midnight CDT tonight. The Fire Weather Watch is no longer in effect. * Affected Area...Primarily inland areas of Lake IL and Cook Counties. * Timing...Until midnight CDT tonight. * Winds...South 20 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph. * Relative Humidity...As low as 30 to 35 percent. * Impacts...Any fire that develops will spread quickly. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged. * Additional Details...Some onshore component to the wind will result in lower temperatures, higher relative humidity, and lower mixing heights along and near the Lake Michigan shore. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
