BULLETIN - EAS ACTIVATION REQUESTED Flash Flood Warning National Weather Service Blacksburg VA 245 PM EDT Sun Jun 15 2025 The National Weather Service in Blacksburg has issued a * Flash Flood Warning for... Central Franklin County in west central Virginia... * Until 845 PM EDT. * At 245 PM EDT, Doppler radar indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the warned area. Between 1 and 3 inches of rain have fallen. Additional rainfall amounts up to 2 inches are possible in the warned area. Flash flooding is ongoing or expected to begin shortly. HAZARD...Flash flooding caused by thunderstorms. SOURCE...Radar. IMPACT...Flash flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses as well as other poor drainage and low-lying areas. * Some locations that will experience flash flooding include... Rocky Mount... Boones Mill... Penhook... Burnt Chimney... Wirtz... Western Smith Mountain Lake... Northwest Smith Mountain Lake... This includes the following streams and drainages... Gills Creek, Coles Creek, Hatchet Creek, Furnace Creek, Little Creek, Blackwater River and Dillons Mill Branch. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles.
