URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Topeka KS 205 PM CDT Thu Jun 19 2025 ...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON FRIDAY TO 8 PM CDT SATURDAY... * WHAT...Afternoon heat index values of 100 to 106 expected. * WHERE...Portions of central, east central, north central, and northeast Kansas. * WHEN...From noon Friday to 8 PM CDT Saturday. * IMPACTS...Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat cramps, heat exhaustion, and even heat stroke. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...This will be the first instance of this level of heat this season and may cause greater impacts that usual. Temperatures Friday night will only fall into the middle and upper 70s. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1. Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes.
