URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Newport/Morehead City NC 121 PM EDT Fri Jul 25 2025 ...HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING... ...EXTREME HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM SATURDAY TO 8 PM EDT SUNDAY... * WHAT...For the Heat Advisory, heat index values up to 107. For the Extreme Heat Warning, dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 116 expected. * WHERE...A portion of eastern North Carolina. * WHEN...For the Heat Advisory, until 8 PM EDT this evening. For the Extreme Heat Warning, from 11 AM Saturday to 8 PM EDT Sunday. * IMPACTS...Heat related illnesses increase significantly during extreme heat and high humidity events. Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Take extra precautions when outside. Wear lightweight and loose fitting clothing. Try to limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Take action when you see symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Stay cool, stay hydrated, stay informed. To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments.
