.Lake effect activity is currently blossoming across the region,
eventually transitioning to all snow by daybreak. Frequent squalls
will be possible through the day today. This can bring about
potential for rapidly changing travel conditions across the region.
Quick onsets of dropping visibilities can be hazardous to travelers.
Thoroughfares most impacted will be M-28 west of Brimley, M-123,
I-75 across portions of eastern upper Michigan and between Frederic
and St. Helen in northern lower Michigan, US 131 from Boyne City to
Fife Lake, M-72 from Grayling to Kalkaska, and US 23 from Rogers
City to Alpena. Please take proper winter precautions if traveling
today, and remember to keep it slow in ice and snow!.

Total snow accumulations of 1 to 4 inches across northern / eastern Presque Isle and Alpena counties. Locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph. * WHERE...Alpena and Presque Isle Counties. * WHEN...Until 7 AM EST Monday. * IMPACTS...Combination of accumulating snow on roads and quick drops in visibility due to strong winds and falling snow will lead to localized hazardous travel. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Slow down and use caution while traveling. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away. Visibilities can also vary greatly. Be prepared for rapid changes in weather, visibility, and road conditions.
