Special Weather Statement National Weather Service Greenville-Spartanburg SC 759 AM EST Thu Jan 15 2026 ...INCREASED FIRE DANGER UNTIL 7 PM EST THIS EVENING... Relative humidity is expected to drop below 25 percent this afternoon as extremely dry Arctic air arrives in the Carolinas and northeast Georgia. Gusts as high as 25-30 kts will accompany this air mass, resulting in potential for fine dead fuel moisture to drop to critical levels. Although cold temperatures will somewhat limit erratic fire behavior, the risk for quick spread of fires will nonetheless be elevated across the North Carolina Piedmont, the South Carolina Upstate, and northeast Georgia this afternoon. Consult your local burn permitting authority on whether you may burn today. If you do burn, exercise extreme caution.
