URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Grand Rapids MI 228 PM EST Wed Jan 21 2026 ...WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 7 PM EST THURSDAY... * WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 2 and 5 inches. Locally higher amounts possible. Winds gusting as high as 35 mph. Highest snowfall expected tonight into early Thursday morning. * WHERE...Portions of southwest and west central Michigan. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 7 PM EST Thursday. * IMPACTS...Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will likely become slick and hazardous. Visibility and road conditions may change rapidly over short distances in lake effect snow. Plan on slippery road conditions. The hazardous conditions could impact the Thursday morning and evening commutes. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Gusty winds daytime Thursday could reduce visibilities in blowing and drifting snow. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Slow down and use caution while traveling. During lake effect snow, the weather can vary from bands of locally heavy snow to dry weather just a few miles away.
