URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Marquette MI 210 AM EST Thu Jan 22 2026 ...EXTREME COLD WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 10 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 PM EST FRIDAY... ...EXTREME COLD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM FRIDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH SATURDAY AFTERNOON... * WHAT...For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below. For the Extreme Cold Watch, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 30 below possible. * WHERE...Alger, Delta, Northern Schoolcraft, and Southern Schoolcraft Counties. * WHEN...For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 10 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Friday. For the Extreme Cold Watch, from Friday afternoon through Saturday afternoon. * IMPACTS...The dangerously cold wind chills as low as 35 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. To prevent water pipes from freezing; wrap or drain or allow them to drip slowly. Drain in-ground sprinkler systems and cover above ground pipes.
