URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Lake Charles LA 1003 AM CST Sat Jan 24 2026 ...COLD WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO NOON CST SUNDAY... ...EXTREME COLD WARNING NOW IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM SUNDAY TO 11 AM CST TUESDAY... ...EXTREME COLD WATCH IS CANCELLED... * WHAT...For the Cold Weather Advisory, very cold wind chills as low as 16 degrees expected. For the Extreme Cold Warning, dangerously cold wind chills as low as 5 degrees expected. * WHERE...Portions of central, south central, southwest, and west central Louisiana and southeast Texas. * WHEN...For the Cold Weather Advisory, from 6 PM this evening to noon CST Sunday. For the Extreme Cold Warning, from 6 PM Sunday to 11 AM CST Tuesday. * IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. An extended period of freezing temperatures could cause ruptured water pipes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
