URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Blacksburg VA 1014 PM EST Sun Jan 25 2026 ...EXTREME COLD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM MONDAY EVENING THROUGH TUESDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 16 below possible. * WHERE...Portions of northwest North Carolina, central, south central, southwest, and west central Virginia, and southeast West Virginia. * WHEN...From Monday evening through Tuesday morning. * IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 15 below zero could result in hypothermia or frostbite if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors.
