URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC 1245 PM EST Thu Jan 29 2026 ...COLD WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 11 AM EST FRIDAY... * WHAT...Very cold wind chills as low as 9 below expected. * WHERE...Washington DC, and portions of central, northeast, northern, and southern Maryland, and northern Virginia. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 11 AM EST Friday. * IMPACTS...Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Additional Cold Weather Headlines are expected at times through the end of the week as the region remains in an Arctic airmass. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
