URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Blacksburg VA 230 AM EST Fri Jan 30 2026 ...EXTREME COLD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY EVENING THROUGH SUNDAY MORNING... * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills as low as 9 below possible. * WHERE...Portions of north central and northwest North Carolina and central, south central, southwest, and west central Virginia. * WHEN...From Saturday evening through Sunday morning. * IMPACTS...The cold wind chills as low as 10 below zero could result in hypothermia if precautions are not taken. Frostbite and hypothermia will occur if unprotected skin is exposed to these temperatures. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible.
