URGENT - WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Baltimore MD/Washington DC 312 PM EST Sat Jan 31 2026 ...EXTREME COLD WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 7 PM THIS EVENING TO 1 PM EST SUNDAY... * WHAT...Dangerously cold wind chills of 8 below to 16 below in the valleys, and 15 below to 30 below on the ridges. * WHERE...Portions of western Maryland, central, northwest, and western Virginia, and eastern West Virginia. * WHEN...From 7 PM this evening to 1 PM EST Sunday. * IMPACTS...The cold weather could result in hypothermia or frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 30 minutes. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Dress in layers including a hat, face mask, and gloves if you must go outside. Keep pets indoors as much as possible. Make sure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly.
