Another system is moving into the panhandle early this morning is
bringing heavier snowfall rates across much of central and
northern southeast Alaska. Snow is expected to mix with and
eventually change over to rain on Tuesday from Kake over to
Petersburg, however, if the changeover is delayed, snowfall
amounts could be higher.

URGENT - WINTER WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Juneau AK 625 AM AKST Tue Mar 3 2026 ...SNOW FOR THE NORTHERN AND CENTRAL PANHANDLE THROUGH WEDNESDAY... Another system is moving into the panhandle early this morning is bringing heavier snowfall rates across much of central and northern southeast Alaska. Snow is expected to mix with and eventually change over to rain on Tuesday from Kake over to Petersburg, however, if the changeover is delayed, snowfall amounts could be higher. ...WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL NOON AKST WEDNESDAY... * WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 10 to 13 inches. Winds gusting as high as 40 mph near downtown Juneau and Douglas. * WHERE...Glacier Bay, Eastern Chichagof Island, Cape Fairweather to Lisianski Strait and City and Borough of Juneau. * WHEN...From 3 AM Tuesday to noon AKST Wednesday. * IMPACTS...Travel will be very difficult and is discouraged unless it is an emergency. The hazardous conditions could impact the morning or evening commute. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Heaviest snowfall rates are expected Tuesday afternoon into Wednesday morning, with snowfall rates of an inch an hour possible. Gusty winds around downtown Juneau and Douglas could cause some areas of blowing snow. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water with you in case of an emergency. People are urged to prepare their property before the onset of winter weather.
