URGENT - FIRE WEATHER MESSAGE National Weather Service Cheyenne WY 230 AM MDT Sat Aug 8 2026 ...RED FLAG WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 11 AM THIS MORNING TO 9 PM MDT SUNDAY FOR GUSTY WINDS, LOW HUMIDITY, AND POOR RECOVERIES FOR FIRE WEATHER ZONES 417, 418, 419, 420, 421, 422, 423, 424, 425, 426, 427, 428, 429, 430, 431, 432, AND 433... * AFFECTED AREA...Fire weather zones 417 through 433. * WIND...Saturday west to northwest winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Overnight, lighter variable winds of 5 to 10 mph. Sunday west to northwest winds from 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph west of I-25, with winds turning southerly to easterly east of I-25. * HUMIDITY...Daytime minimum RH between 5 and 10 percent on Saturday, and between 8 and 12 percent on Sunday. Overnight recoveries of 20 to 40 percent along and west of Interstate 25 and 40 to 60 percent in Niobrara and Goshen Counties. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Isolated high-based showers will have the potential to produce gusty and erratic winds along with a few strikes of lightning without much, if any, rainfall during the afternoon and evening hours both Saturday and Sunday. * IMPACTS...Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly. Outdoor burning is not recommended. PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring now, or will shortly. A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior.
