SPECIAL WEATHER STATEMENT National Weather Service ANCHORAGE AK 214 PM AKDT Mon Aug 24 2026 ...STRONG WINDS FOR ANCHORAGE BOWL, EAGLE RIVER AND ANCHORAGE HILLSIDES, AND AROUND PALMER TUESDAY MORNING THROUGH TUESDAY EVENING... Strong southeasterly winds are expected to develop by early Tuesday morning and will continue through Tuesday evening before diminishing Tuesday night. The strongest winds are expected between 8 AM and 6 PM Tuesday. Periods of rain will accompany the strong winds through much of the day. South and West Anchorage (along Turnagain Arm): Winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 35 to 50 mph. Anchorage Hillside: Winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph. Anchorage Bowl: Winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts 25 to 35 mph. Turnagain Arm - Portage to Indian: Winds 20 to 30 mph with gusts 40 to 50 mph. Palmer and Butte: Winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph. Another, stronger system is expected to impact Southcentral Thursday into Friday. We will continue to monitor this system closely as details regarding potential impacts become clearer.
