Flood Watch National Weather Service El Paso Tx/Santa Teresa NM 225 PM MDT Thu Sep 17 2026 ...FLOOD WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT THROUGH LATE TONIGHT... * WHAT...Flooding caused by excessive rainfall continues to be possible. * WHERE...Portions of south central and southwest New Mexico, including Sierra, Dona Ana, Luna, and eastern Grant Counties and the Sacramento Mountains in northern Otero County. * WHEN...Through late tonight. * IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, arroyos, low water crossings, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. * ADDITIONAL DETAILS... - 24-hour rainfall observations shows a wide swath of 1-2" across much of south-central New Mexico. High soil moisture will allow runoff to occur quickly with any additional rounds of rain. Thunderstorms are expected to track north across the Watch area Thursday night into Friday morning, leading to localized flash flooding. Additionally, risk of flooding continues for the Sacramento Mountains, where storms initiating along a N/S oriented ridge and parallel storm motions may lead to training storms and prolonged heavy rain Thursday afternoon. - This includes portions of the I-25 corridor through Hatch and Truth-or-Consequences and the I-10 corridor through Las Cruces and Deming. - http://www.weather.gov/safety/flood PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible Flood Warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.
